Practitioners

Lorraine Williams

A communications and media professional with a strong interest and passion for mindful living. After many years in London, during which time she discovered mindfulness practice kept her sane and able to deal with multiple challenges, Lorraine has now settled in Thanet and brings her mindful approach, to the Thanet scene.

Lorraine is a long time student, practitioner and proponent of yoga, tai chi, qigong, humanistic psychology, mindful communications, meditation and general mindful practice.

Always open to new ideas and spotting connections between different disciplines, she is a very experienced Open Meditation leader and led the long established group, Open Meditation Camden, for several years, sadly missing that group when she moved. Hence Open Meditation Thanet was born and from there Mindfulness in Thanet has developed and continues to grow.

Lorraine is committed to mindfulness as a way of life and a technique for living that can easily be learned through simple sessions of mindfulness practice - she is always happy to lead groups who are interested, whether members are experienced at meditation or entirely new to it. Talk to Lorraine about attending an Open Meditation Thanet session on a Wednesday evening, or about arranging a Practical Mindfulness session for your group or workplace.

Charmaine Hawthorne

An emerging theatre director, filmmaker and screenwriter, Charmaine has an extensive background working in the arts and culture sector. Having practiced and worked in theatre as an actress and practitioner over the past 10 years she has developed a passion and knowledge for meditation, yoga, mindfulness and other physical techniques that have helped her to approach creativity from a mindful and spiritual place. She now uses these tailored approaches within her own workshops and rehearsal sessions.

Charmaine began studying and practicing yoga when she was just fourteen and is now an intermediate yogi. She is largely self taught, combining practices in Kundalini and Hatha and has teaching experience in Creative Retreats in the South of France for Widening Communication, Nottingham University to first year BArch students, private sessions in London/ Thanet and teaching to actors in movement workshops. She is interested in developing her practice and would like to acquire new skills in pre/post natal yoga, childrens yoga and even dog yoga! Currently Charmaine has discovered the joys of Yoga Nidra and is happiest at home when writing and developing her practice.

Charmaine offers relaxation, alternative meditation and yoga workshops for beginners and intermediates. They can be tailored and suited to the students individual needs focusing on stress relief, healing, detox, enhancing creativity and stimulating energy. If you have an ongoing problem whether it be physical, emotional or mental, Meditation and yoga can truly bring about positive and lasting change.
